IT was the "unique design and cute appeal of Dora Mouse" that won the day for Dora Designs Limited when the firm was highly commended in The Giftware Association's annual Gift of the Year Awards. That's how director Mark Stevens assessed the product's appeal to ensure its place on the list of the nation's most exciting gifts for 2009.

Dora Mouse is part of the Country Folk range which was selected in the Collect It category.

Gift of the Year Awards are only presented to the latest most original and innovatively designed products that can be given as gifts. However, entrants also have to demonstrate that the product is commercially viable.

Design director and creator of the Country Folk range, and Mark's wife, Angela Stevens, said: "It is great that the Dora Mouse has been Highly Commended as the Gift of The Year Awards are an excellent indicator of what is going to be hot this Christmas.

"We also entered two other designs which were both shortlisted, and are currently working on some new designs to be put forward for next year's awards."

According to chief executive of The Giftware Association Isabel Martinson, judging the winners and highly commended products in each category was extremely difficult: "Now in their 30th year, the 2009 awards have again attracted an enormous number of entries.

"We were inundated with new, exciting products all bidding to capture the judges' attention and be crowned as this year's must-have Christmas gift. Congratulations to Dora Designs Limited on this fantastic achievement."
