A company near Stamford that turns iconic red telephone boxes into furniture has been given the seal of approval from TV producer and talent guru Simon Cowell.

BritishBits, based in Spa Road, Braceborough, near Stamford has loaned one of its telephone box sofas to ITV1’s hit show The X Factor to take pride of place in the contestants’ house.

Owner Jason Jones said: “The sofa is in a prominent place and can often be seen on national television. I’m very proud.”

BritishBits has specialised in the reclamation of red telephone boxes, which can be found in various states of disrepair in many places.

Once restored to their former glory, the telephone boxes are a must-have for many organisations and have been sold around the world.

But Mr Jones decided the company had to branch out. He used a K6 model - the last box in Trafalgar Square - to create a mould from which his £150,000 a year turnover company, with four staff, could create plush sofas.

The idea clearly had its own X Factor appeal to bosses of the TV reality show.
