PHILIP Amps, managing director of Amps Fine Wines, was "chuffed to bits" when he heard that his firm had won the Small Business of the Year Award. The awards judges were most impressed by this category. For Philip and his staff, it was the "cherry on top of a very big cake." This year the company has won three national competitions, each of which was open to more than 500 independent wine merchants.
In addition, the independent family-run business based in Oundle has enjoyed a growth in turnover this year, a significant achievement for the industry in the current economic climate.
Philip truly believes that the retention of excellent staff is core to the success of the business, together with establishing solid relationships to all those they serve.
Amps Fine Wines has many added value services that strengthen the partnership between it and and its customers, for example in-house wine courses and a wine club.
Taking on more than 30 new commercial accounts and adding more than 520 retail customers to its database demonstrates how successful the past year has been.
With a history since 1887, Amps became solely a wine and spirits merchant in 1993.
