Thursday, 2.15pm: The £800,000 redevelopment of Cowgate is not expected to be hindered, despite the unexpected discovery of a forgotten basement.

Workers unearthed the storage area beneath King’s Street in the city centre today.

A spokeswoman for Peterborough City Council said workers will clear the basement of any leftover items and then fill it with foam concrete.
