Three local fish and chip shops shortlisted for awards

THREE fish and chip shops from the Peterborough area have made it to the shortlist of the 23rd annual National Fish and Chip Awards.

Fryz Fish and Chips, in the Bretton Centre, Bretton; Linford’s, in Market Place, Market Deeping and Seafare, in The Boundary, Market Deeping, are on a 30-strong list of UK contenders for the Best Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop Award.

All fish and chip shops on the shortlist will receive an in-depth judging visit from an industry expert from Seafish, the authority on seafood.

The Top 10 UK shops will be announced in October, with a grand final taking place in London in January 2011.

Andy Gray, customer development manager for Seafish, said: “The East England shortlist represents the best fish and chip shops in the region and it’s now time for the judges to sharpen their pencils and their taste buds and get on with the business of identifying the UK’s Top 10.

“Those shortlisted can be very proud of themselves.”

I have just read the rules (www.fishandchipawards.com) and see all you do is fill in a form and send a few photo. Five local shops are then selected without even trying the fish! For the next stage someone goesand tries the fish and chip on a prearranged date. To be fair I would have thought it should be done by a blind panel. Who were the other two shop which you did not mention?
