Barking Mad idea to give owners peace of mind

Do you know what your dog is doing when you're sunning yourself on holiday overseas?

Do you know what your dog is doing when you're sunning yourself on holiday overseas?New research by "home from home" pet care service Barking Mad shows that an increasing number of owners choose not to go on holiday due to anxiety caused by having to leave a key member of their family in the UK.

Despite looking forward to their annual holiday, many dog owners have formed such a bond with their pet that they won't leave them especially if kennels or house-sitting is not for them.

To help solve this problem, Barking Mad, based in Spalding, has teamed up with Thomas Cook to give travellers a special offer of a free night's holiday for their dog.

Kerry Wells launched Barking Mad in the Peterborough area two years ago.

The concept is centred on accommodating dogs in a caring environment with a loving local host family, ensuring that their routine is kept as consistent as possible.

Commenting on the partnership, Kerry said: "We know from experience that many pet owners won't even consider going abroad because they are worried about abandoning their beloved pet.

"With options limited, relying on friends and family or choosing kennels have historically been the most obvious choices, but for many, these options are just not available.

"Only 10 per cent of dog owners use kennels and 28 per cent are foisted on to friends and neighbours – and many of those would rather not have the responsibility.

"We're helping solve that problem, and it's fantastic news that the world's best known travel company, Thomas Cook, is helping its customers have the peace of mind they need."

As the UK's first doggy travel agent, the Barking Mad service has been delighting thousands of customers nationwide who have been searching for another solution when they go away, and there are now 60 trained owner-operator franchisees across the country (and one in Cyprus).

The company has gone from strength to strength, as it understands how important it is to ensure their customers' dogs have the perfect holiday.

Dog owners booking a holiday with Thomas Cook before the end of February will receive a voucher for a free night's stay for their dog.

Pampered pooch parents' can relax and will even receive a holiday postcard from their dog when they return.

Thomas Cook has launched a host of money-saving offers, worth more than 450, that all customers will receive when they make a booking.

The vouchers, free for customers who book up to February 28, 2009, includes a free night's Home from Home holiday with Barking Mad for the family dog during a stay of seven nights or more.

Thomas Cook and Barking Mad are looking forward to a great start to 2009 and many successful holiday breaks for their customers, whether they have four legs or two.
