Aldi has announced that it is looking to recruit around 8 apprentices for its stores across Cambridgeshire, as part of a UK-wide drive to recruit 650 apprentices throughout the UK.
The supermarket is looking for between one and three apprentices per store for its stores in Cambridge, Wisbech, Ely, and Peterborough.
Aldi is looking to recruit over 650 apprentices during 2015 to support its stores and distribution centres, as part of the Aldi Apprenticeship Scheme.
Aldi store apprentices are trained in all aspects of Retail Management during the three year course. The scheme offers Store Assistant training in year one and store management training in years two and three with a market-leading salary of £5.30 per hour rising to £7.63 per hour. Successful apprentices will be offered a Deputy Manager position upon completion of the course, and can progress onto Assistant Store Manager. Aldi store apprentices will also achieve a Retail Apprenticeship Level 3 qualification.
The most successful store apprentices on Aldi’s Apprenticeship Scheme will have the opportunity to progress to the position of Assistant Store Manager with a starting salary of £24,500. The scheme could also fast track young people to a Store Manager position if they excel during training.
Aldi Regional Managing Director Ruth Doyle, said: “It’s very encouraging to see that apprenticeships are now getting the credit they deserve. With increasing university tuition fees making it harder for young people to attend university, students are now seeing the benefits of the chance to earn while they learn, while gaining invaluable on-the-job experience.
“Apprenticeships are a great opportunity for young people to learn alongside talented and driven individuals and receive plenty of support and training.
“The Aldi Apprentice Scheme will create hundreds of opportunities across the UK for young people who want to learn invaluable skills that will set them apart from the rest and lead to a successful career in retail.”
Candidates interested in the programme can find out more through Aldi’s recruitment website www.aldirecruitment.co.uk. Candidates must have a minimum GCSE Grade C in Maths and English or equivalent Functional Skills.
