As part of a Frozen Planet topic, Reception children at Hampton Vale Primary School have been been finding out what it is like in cold countries and how the winter weather affects the climate and animals.

They also discovered more about how the colder and more wintery weather affects their own community and the local wildlife. Birds in particular find it very difficult to find the food they need in the winter so children made ‘fat ball’ bird feeders using lard and bird seed and hung them up around the James’ Pond circuit in Hampton.

Dobbies Garden Centre in Hampton also donated a big bag of bird seed, a bird table, some ready made fat balls and some bird feeders which have since been put up around school and in the Early Years garden.
