When it opens later this month, it is hoped the elegant new Baccara nightclub will give people something to shout about following the closure of a number of central venues, including Faith and Bogart's.
Styling itself as "The ultimate playground for the night time community", the 800-capacity venue consists of five separate areas, including a luxury white VIP room and a huge garden area.
It has been created in the former Cafe en Seine building, in Broadway, and will snuggle up next to the Imperial Bento restaurant.
It comes as The Evening Telegraph unveils the outcome of its online survey which sought to uncover just what revellers wanted from an evening out.
It revealed that more than half of you thought Peterborough rated as poor on a night out, with just four per cent saying the variety of entertainment on offer as excellent.
See the results of the night time economy survey below - and have your say by commenting. But according to Baccara's owner Tariq Mahmood, who also runs the nearby Coco Mexican restaurant and cocktail bar, this is about to change.
He said: "To be quite honest, Peterborough nightlife is diabolical at the moment. If you've been out in the last six months, it's clear to see that numbers have dropped.
"Peterborough needs a fresh injection. People see lovely bars and restaurants in other cities, and wonder why they are not here.
"Baccara is going to kick-start this. I have designed and built it myself and it has lots of special features. It will have quite a moody, ornate feeling, classy enough for revellers in their 30s to feel at home, and we'll have the best DJs around.
"It will need competition though, three or four more large nightlife spots to open up and create a bit more choice. People don't just want to stay in one place, they want to move about."
But is a new superclub the answer to the doldrums?
The results of The ET survey indicated that people do not think there's enough variety. Chief executive of Opportunity Peterborough Stephen Compton agrees the city's nightlife is not fulfilling its potential. He said: "What is on offer is very limited to one or two types of target audience.
"The problem is that we have 40,000 people coming into the city during the day, but all that wealth and interest drives out at the end of the day. We need to build it up.
"If we want a night time economy that supports, for instance, two cinemas, high-quality restaurants, proper bistros, an arena and conference venue, then we must have the right building blocks in place –the university will be critical.
"We are currently carrying out an action plan for the city centre and from that we will go on to map out a plan for the night-time economy."
Baccara opens on June 26.
