THE wife of a man accused of murder bragged about the killing to her friends at her birthday party, a court heard.
Charlotte Baigent (28) drunkenly told her pals about her husband's role in the death of his half-brother Andrew Scanlan at a party a week after the murder was alleged to have taken place, Cambridge Crown Court heard yesterday.

Witnesses who had be
en at the house party on November 25, 2006, told jurors that a row had broken out between Charlotte Baigent and another party-goer over a damaged karaoke game.

They said the altercation escalated to a slanging match during which Charlotte Baigent was alleged to have said her husband, James could kill the other woman's partner, adding "it's not as if he hasn't killed before".

The Evening Telegraph has been asked not to name the witnesses for legal reasons.

One close friend said the witness asked "Alright Char, who did he kill?", to which Baigent is said to have replied "Andrew".

Another friend asked where the body was, and Baigent replied "Aldershot", the court heard.

Several of the friends at the party said she was asked about DNA and other evidence that would lead the police to her husband.

To which Baigent replied "We had a flourescent light". One friend said: "I said 'I don't think you can get rid of DNA that easily', then I laughed at her. I said 'you've been watching too many Crime Scene Investigations girl'."

It is alleged that Charlotte Baigent helped James Baigent (30), Mark Baigent (27) and Jeff Woods (36) clean the interior of the white Ford Escort used to transport Andrew Scanlan from Peterborough, using techniques she had copied from television series CSI.

The prosecution claim the Baigent brothers had tricked Mr Scanlan (35) into leaving his home in Dickens Street, Eastfield, Peterborough, on November 17.

It is claimed they, along with Woods, killed Mr Scanlan then buried his remains in dense woodland in Aldershot, Hampshire.

Witnesses said that Charlotte Baigent told them she was having an affair with Woods. They said she showed them text messages with a "sexual content", from him on the night of the party.

James Baigent, of Sandhurst, Surrey, Mark Baigent, of Medworth, Orton Goldhay, Peterborough, and Woods, of Bracknell, Berkshire, all deny murder.

Charlotte Baigent, of Sandhurst, Surrey, denies three counts of assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice.

The trial continues.
