Councillor David Raines, who represents Werrington South, said the stretch of road is cause for concern, and he believes the existing 70mph speed limit is too high.
At the moment drivers can legally head towards the city from Glinton, at 70mph, but this drops to 50mph after the David's Lane roundabout, where the accident took place.

Cllr Raines said: "Without wanting to pre-empt police investigations into what happened, it would seem to me that speed played a part in the crash.
"The David's Lane roundabout is quite hidden as you drive into the city, and even though there is adequate signposting, the limit should drop to 50mph way before the roundabout.
"This would give drivers more time to slow down."
Cllr John Fox, who represents Werrington North, added: "The part of the A15 road where the crash happened is of concern. I am deeply saddened by what happened, and I think the speed limit has to be looked at."
Police said today that a forensic investigation of the scene had been completed.
