Hundreds of you have continued to text, email and write to the Evening Telegraph with views on the RAF ban on the wearing of uniforms in Peterborough.
Here are more comments:

I was totally disgusted at the headlines in yesterdays ET. My husband is a serving member of the RAF and my children and I are so proud of him and everything he does. He has fought in both Gulf Wars, Balkans and Sierra Leone, amongst others. As an ex service women, I was extremely proud to wear my uniform and to be part of one of Her Majesty's Services.

We have just returned from a holiday in Florida and in America we were treated like royalty. The Americans can't do enough for their heroes and I was immensely proud and honoured to stand at my husbands side when at SeaWorld, Military personnel and their families were applauded and cheered for.

The stupid, ignorant people who think it's ok to spit and insult at our guys and girls in the RAF ought to be ashamed of themselves and take into consideration of what their lives would be like if they weren't here to help and protect us.

I would like to say as a father of a serving Raf Nurse im proud of all my daughters achievements' and any

People disrespecting there right to wear the uniform in public are the same people who cry and beg to be treated in the N.H.S

Wake up they work hard in dangerous places when deployed and get abuse in the A.E work place here

Thanks to the E.T for standing up
Jim Hensey

I would to add my support to the above campaign, as I am an old soldier myself.

i would just like to say that i think ALL forces shouldwear there uniforms in public with pride. peterborough will welcome you all with open arms. those who dont like it, would you put your life on the line for our country?
JOHN SPEECHLEY

The RAF uniform is welcome on the streets of my country any time. The USA is not perfect, but we recognise and appreciate service to one's country. And at the risk of offending some "minority" and sounding racist or politically incorrect, "God save the Queen!"

I have taken part in the freedom of Peterborough parade, at that time young teenagers found it funny to run between the ranks as we stood at attention.

There was no respect from them as they found it funny to run between the guys and gals who stood stock still as the mayor delivered his speech.

I note that you mention the medical care given by service doctors and nurses in the Peterborough area, as I recall they do so at both Peterborugh and Edith Cavell hospitals. I wonder how much the attitude
of the city would change if that service was withdrawn?

What if the service men and women of RAF Wittering decided to no longer spend their wages in the city? I know of one area where a ban on service personnel going to a town ended up with that area's business's petitioning to have the ban withdrawn as they would lose too much money.

That ban was for only a month, how dependant is the city on the many people at Wittering who either reside or shop in Peterborough's shops.

You claim that it is a minority at fault, that the police have had no official complaints etc. If a serviceman in uniform gave some 'correction' to someone abusing him, who would be at fault? In the eyes of the law he would be arrested for assault.

We have no greater rights than any civilian, yet we are bound by both military and civil law. We follow our orders dutifully, and with public opinion of the forces dropping more and more of us are leaving early. When the fire service went on strike we were there. When the country was struck by floods we were there. When we come home from overseas in a box, where are you? On rememberance sunday you all proclaim, 'we will remember', apparantly this only applies to those of the WWII. For those who lose their lives today dont matter to you back here, claiming it as an illegal war you turn your backs on us until you need us to do something.
TWIGS

This has enraged me, just how low can this country get because of the ignorant few.

Why oh why do we allow this sort of intimidation because of the few, we have laws against this sort of thing, but no, it is easier to back off and allow the bullies to win than it is to bring the weight of the law down against these bullies.

We should be proud of our service men and women, as those men and women are proud to wear the Queen's uniform.
Political correctness is strangling this country.
Patricia.

I would like through your paper to register my dismay at the suggestion that our brave service men should not wear their uniform in Peterborough.....What ever is happening to this fine country of ours, where is the respect for our service men....I do think that all RAF should now wear uniform at all times in the town to show that they will not be intimidated by a few local "yobs"

join the millions of right thinking British Citizens who are Proud of the difficult duties that our Service Personnel undertake in the name of Our Sovereign Lady The Queen.

Let us remind our Nation, that when Service Personnel sign up, they have no choice as to where they serve, for to fail to do so, amounts to Desertion and a Court Marshal.

It is a sad endorsement on our Society, that there are a minority of individuals who believe that they can use 'Bully Boy' tactics in what is their perverted view of Democracy. With the personal safety of our RAF Wittering personnel very much to the fore, it is understandable that the easiest solution is to make a No Uniform Order whilst in Peterborough. The greatest concern for our Prime Minister, who has already recorded his own disgust at the actions of the few residents of Peterborough, has to be that this will open the floodgates in all towns where we have barracks.

The solution in my humble opinion, is not to give in and further lower morale but to deal with the perpetrators with the full force of Law. If they have been Offensive, there exists the options to Charge Common Assault; Threatening Behaviour; Using Words likely to cause a Breach of the Peace; and that is just for starters.

We need to regain the Pride in ourselves as a Proud Nation; we should reintroduce The Royal Tournament; we should do as they do in France and The USA, encourage everyone to fly our Union Flag from every Flagpole and remove the Planning Permission required to do so.

We must also be seen to stand up to such individuals by Parading the entire RAF Wittering Garrison, with Bayonets Fixed and Drums Beating from one end of Peterborough to the other, adding the largest contingents of Royal Navy and Army personnel as possible.

This story has wired around the World; our very credibility in our own sense of self pride has now been called into question and we have to show the World that we are in fact a Proud Nation and Proud to be British.

Will you support such an initiative please Mr Brown?

it is unexpectable that the raf cannot wear there uniform! there uniform is propety of the Queen and by defacing it and agrueing over it you defacing the Queen. you cannot tell the raf not to wear there uniform in ton without telling the air training corps not to wear there uniform in town! the fact is that if you wear a uniform in town you will get shouted at if its raf, navy. army or even a school uniform like peterborough high or kings

Your spelling is certainly unexpectable! - And I see no sense in your view that if you wear a uniform in town you will be shouted at! Bizarre

I was born in Peterborough and my family backgrounds are serbian and italian and what has happen to serb people in the past from this country i had to accept it and get on with it, my dad has always said you are born here and be proud being part of this country because this is yours, i have always been proud of the british military dont matter what they have been involved, dont always agree where they are and doing but they are only directed by the govenment and they must accept it.
tv last night about what has been going on with our military and certain groups of people in this city is a total disgrace i felt so embarressed and let down and angered at these people.who do they think they are, to those people who disagree about our military wearing the uniform in the city and the english culture and ways, i say one thing and its quite simple if you dont like and accept the english way, go back to the country you follow, this country is not for you to change, its all ok to go on the dole, free NHS, free freedom of speech and free dress sense and many more. if you dont like following these rules,
GO BACK WE DONT WANT YOU HERE... IT MUST BE BETTER ELSEWHERE...... LETS SEE IF IT IS.... I DOUBT IT

Our son as served in the armed forces since before Bosnia and as also done two stints in Iraq, and soon to deploy to Afghanistan this is the only thanks he can expect being spit on for wareing the Queens Uniform.
When I see the young Iranians and Afghanistanis and other's I think why are you not fighting for your own country, are you such cowards that you feel so safe here, you can insult the very persons who are defending you.
If we had a proper Government instead of the moral cowards we have now you, would be deported along with your relations no matter how long they had resided in this country.

Even though I do not agree with the war, I am proud of our Armed Forces and support them wholeheartedly. If they want to wear their uniforms in Peterborough, they should be able to do so with pride.

i completely agree with Dusan of Woodstan, this is England we speak English you can speak what you like in your own homes but it is so rude in company - these military personnel should be seen in their uniforms it is a disgrace to Peterborough that this should be allowed to happen. I have only been a resident for a few months but let us be proud of this city.

Peterborough get you people in order. For too long the decent members of society avoid conflict with the extremist views of the visiting minorities.

I wonder how the opposite would be reported a military person in uniform insulting an ethnic member of the community due to his/her choice of dress.

There are Coockoo's in our nest.

Previous posts confirm who i suspected were responsible for bringing disgrace on Peterborough, although the media will not openly be able to identify them because the do-gooders will shout "racist". You come here, you conform with our laws and customs. If not we dont want you. Simple.

It is time the decent majority of Peterborough set the agenda again instead of the migrant minority and yes they are still the minority here. Wouldn't it be nice if we could say what we feel without being branded a racist, be able to walk the streets alone in safety, have money spent by the council on projects to benefit the majority of Peterborough council tax payers, I have a dream to one day this will be possible.
