THIS stunning series of pictures shows Peterborough in all its glory from one of its highest and most historical points.
They were taken by snap-happy ET reader Jennie Richardson, on Saturday, from the very top of the scaffolding at the west front of Peterborough Cathedral, during an a once in a lifetime climbing experience.
Daring Jennie, alongside 10 other thrill-seekers, scaled the inside of the scaffolding surrounding the north west tower, during a charity climb which was organised by Peterborough Lions Club.
The club had given anyone who wished to see the city from a unique vantage point the chance to take part in the sponsored climb, with money raised going to the Stroke Association and the cathedral's restoration fund.
Jenny said: "The chance to climb this high won't happen again in my lifetime as the scaffolding has to be removed in readiness for Christmas.
"I'm glad I didn't go on Friday when it was really windy, but I felt honoured to have the chance to take part."
The scaffolding has been in place for three years while work to restore the tower's damaged stonework was undertaken. Work is now complete and the scaffolding is being taken down in time for Christmas.
The climb, called Stairway to Heaven? involved the intrepid climbers scaling 17 flights of scaffolding to 46m high above the city.
Although it was a tough task, president of Peterborough Lions Club Robert Mapletoft said the spectacular views made it all worthwhile.

He added: "Jennie was very pleased to have been able to climb the stairway. We didn't get as many customers as we would have liked. It was a fantastic opportunity, so lots of people have missed out.
"It was an extreme fund-raising event and just something that was a little bit different. We are not quite sure how much money we have raised, but the figure we hope to have raised is about £2,000.
"The cathedral is the single most important building in the city for historical reasons, whether you are a Christian or not. It's just beautiful.
"It's windy up there, but it's excellent. From the top you can see the whole of Peterborough in a westerly direction, such as Thorpe Hall and the city's two newest mosques. On a clear day, you can see Ely, but it wasn't that clear."
