HE may have been at the peak of his fame in the '80s but an appearance by Australian heartthrob Jason Donovan can still draw a huge crowd.
Hundreds of people, mostly women, queued up for hours to meet their idol yesterday when he came to Peterborough to sign copies of his new autobiography, Between The Lines.

The singer and actor shot to fame starring opposite Kylie Minogue as Scott in Neighbours. He then went on to enjoy huge chart success and also to carve a career appearing in musicals, notably in the title role of Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.

He recently returned to the small screen when he appeared on I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here. But early in his career he developed an increasingly dangerous drug habit and his new book promises a raw account of his addiction. Jason told the ET he had decided to write his life story so he could tell it in his own way.

He said: "It's just an opportunity to be able to talk about my life in the terms and conditions I want to explain it really.

"I've been asked on numerous occasions and I've always refrained because I really didn't think the timing was right.

"But particularly since last year and the jungle and that whole exposure it's a positive time for me."

The book also charts his relationship with pop princess Kylie Minogue, and Jason dismissed rumours that she was unhappy about him spilling the beans about their relationship.

He said: "That contradicts stuff that was said earlier this year by her at the Grand Prix. Even if she were to take offence at something, there's nothing sensationalist in anything, nothing that hasn't been said about our relationship in the past.

"But I have spoken to her manager and he seemed to have no problems about me writing an autobiography, so I did the right thing."

Jason will be back on our screens next January in Echo Beach, which is being billed as "Extras meets the OC".

He said he is enjoying a second round of being in the public eye.

If you went to the book signing, send us your photos and let us know what you thought about meeting your idol.
