TRAVELLERS who set up camp on an open piece of grassland in Peterborough have been told to move on.
Around four caravans and other vehicles were parked on the site, just off Malborne Way, in Orton Malborne yesterday afternoon.

They were believed to have been there for up to two days.

A spokeswoman for Peterborough City Council said officers had given the group notice to move on – meaning they should move all of their vehicles and belongings from the site by tomorrow.

She added that council officers would assess the situation further on Thursday if they were still in the area.

These "travellers" are sticking two fingers up to the laws.
Not only do they park up illegally but also leave the site in a filthy condition, they are parasites on modern society and it is about time that tougher measures were taken to punish such offenders.
Are their vehicles taxed and insured etc?

Run them all out of the city, follow them and don't let them stop, set up a cctv van and mointor them 24/7.

Give them a gentle nudge with half a dozen JCB's in the middle of the night. Impound their vans and all of a sudden rogue builder/landscape gardener complaints will fall.

I have nothing against anybody who wishes to live in a caravan and travel. We all have a right to live our lives as we wish. However there would be a lot more respect for those living this type of life if there was less theft and intimidation concerned with it. There would also be sympathy towards more permanent sites which would stop illegal camps such as this one.

Travellers have been camped out at the Debenhams site for weeks now, they have not been moved on. WHY?? Come on City Council and the Police, we pay our taxes so move these parasites on. The rubbish they leave is a disgrace and clearing it means we foot the bill. Its time this City sorted the traveller problem out once and for all. I like many others are sick of travellers trashing our community.

They should do what I suggested weeks ago when the Travelers where parked at the regional Pool.
Charge them a certain amount for rubbish removal that will be forefeted if it is not moved.
Then also bring in trespass charges say £5,000 a day for illegal parking.
Tow away all vehicles without a licence and all caravans not road worthy.

what makes me laugh is how mr or mrs average gets a £50 fine for dropping a cig end, these travellers leave piles of rubbish and chaos, the police have their registration numbers,so why do you never see them in court?
