AS the ultimate accolade to the skill of a tragic motorbike racer who died in a freak crash, his team has announced it will name the most difficult corner on its new circuit after him.
In a lasting tribute to Craig Jones, from Warmington, near Oundle, Parkalgar, the track in Portugal that owns the Parkalgar Honda team the 23-year-old raced for, revealed it will name its most technical corner after Craig in recognition of his talent.
It will also be setting up a memorial to him at the circuit so that visitors can pay their respects.
The full unveiling will take place with Craig's family at the final round of World Superbikes at the circuit in November.
The news came as Craig's father Steve revealed he didn't hold the rider who struck Craig as he was thrown off his bike after crashing at 120mph at Brands Hatch in any way responsible for his death – and has asked him to go on and win the World Championship for Craig.
Craig's death sent shockwaves through the motorbike racing world and left his family and girlfriend Karen Atkins devastated.
After paying a moving tribute in The Evening Telegraph, his loved ones have spoken further about their "hero" and the void he has left in their lives.
His father Steve (47) who lives in Northwich, Cheshire, where Craig grew up, said: "His young life was taken away far too soon but we smile that he put into it what most could only hope to achieve in two lifetimes.
"We are completely overwhelmed to think our boy touched so many people's lives with his warmth, cheeky humour and friendship – those who are left behind will bear the pain and sorrow but our son is at peace now.
"We would like to extend our grateful thanks to our families, friends, the racing community and for all of the worldwide messages of sympathy."
His mother Yvonne (48) said she took some comfort from the fact he died doing what he loved best.
She said: "He once said he was living the dream and Craig most certainly did that. I will love him forever."
His sister Kirsty (29) added: "Craig was one in a million, a fantastic little brother and uncle to my daughter Libby who made us so, so proud."
His younger sister Cassie (20) said: "Craig was not only my big brother, he was my hero. He was one of the brightest stars in my life and now he is the brightest star in the sky."
Girlfriend Karen (33), who works at the Vogal Group in Woodston, Peterborough, said: "Craig was the soul-mate I thought I would never find, he made every single day of my life extra special.
"He was the air that I breathed, he made me the happiest girl in the world."
A tribute to Craig is being planned for Donington Park World Superbikes on September 7, with more information to be released soon.
'Best friend' Cal will ride in Craig's helmet
Cal Crutchlow has vowed to go all out for victory in order to give his best friend Craig Jones the most fitting tribute at this weekend's Bennetts British Superbike round at Knockhill.
Bidding to keep himself in with a faint chance of this year's title, Crutchlow's priority this weekend will be to make Craig proud with a pair of wins and 'nothing else'.
Furthermore, Crutchlow do his bit for Craig by wearing one of the helmets he was using this season ahead of last weekend's fateful World Supersport round at Brands Hatch.
"This will be a special, but hard weekend for me, after one of my best mates – Craig Jones – passed away at the start of the week. I will be wearing one of his actual helmets that he wore this season for the weekend and I'll be proud to do so and I hope my results will make him proud of me."
