Three dead - A141 closed by serious accident

UPDATE 8am: Fire crews from Chatteris and one from Manea along with a rescue vehicle from Huntingdon attended the scene where they released three injured casualties from the Toyota.
The crash happened at around 6.50pm, close to the Dock Bridge on the A141 Isle of Ely Way when a silver Toyota people carrier travelling towards March collided with a blue and white Scania lorry.

Three male passengers in the people carrier were treated by ambulance crews at the scene but died before they could be taken to hospital.

Two other men in the vehicle, a 38-year-old and a 17-year-old, both from Wisbech, were seriously injured and taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge where they remain today.

A further two men who were also travelling in the Toyota, both 28 from Wisbech, were taken to Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon with minor injuries.

The driver of the lorry, a 58-year-old man from Chelmsford, also suffered minor injuries and was taken to Hinchingbrooke.

The road was closed shortly after the accident and diversions were put in place. The road re-opened this morning at around 3am.

Pc Tim Kirkby who is investigating the collision said: "I would like to hear from anyone who was travelling along that stretch of road last night and witnessed the vehicles in the moments leading up to the collision to contact me. Any information, no matter how small, could prove invaluable in this investigation."

7.30AM UPDATE: Police said the three dead were among a party of seven travelling in one vehicle. Two people received serious injuries and the other two were unhurt.
The driver of the second vehicle received minor injuries.


A Cambridgeshire Police spokeswoman said: "One of the vehicles involved in the collision had seven people on board - three of which suffered fatal injuries, two of whom have suffered serious injuries and two who were uninjured.

"The driver of the second vehicle has suffered minor injuries."

THURSDAY 11 PM: The A141 Fenland Way at Chatteris has been closed this evening by a serious crash in which three people died.


The accident involving a car and a lorry has led to the closure between Doddington Road and Huntingdon Road.

Two people were also seriously injured.

There are no dangerous roads just dangerous drivers. How sad that yet more people have lost their life on the regions roads.

that road is well known for riskey overtaking because of it's long stretch of straight road

completely agree with u A seymour such a shame and villa u are right people take lots of risks on that road but there are alot of hidden dips in this road,my thoughts go out 2 the family of all involved
