A SWIMMING pool in Peterborough has been re-opened after a burst water main forced its temporary closure on Thursday.
The Regional Pool and Fitness Centre was closed all day on Thursday and throughout yesterday morning while Peterborough City Council contractors worked to fix the broken pipe.
A duty manager had spotted the leaking pipe in the morning, and the decision was taken to close the pool because no running water was available for swimmers.
The burst pipe had been fixed by lunchtime yesterday, and the pool was open for its usual swimming sessions in the afternoon, as well as a regular meeting of the City of Peterborough Swimming Club.
The city council’s sports services monitoring officer Chantelle Watson apologised for the closure, but confirmed it would be business as usual at the leisure centre from today.
She said: “We are pleased that the problem with the water pipe has now been fixed and apologise to swimmers who were not able to use the pool on Thursday and Friday.”
