PROTESTERS have vowed the fight against plans for a £500 million rail-based distribution park will go on even if it is enshrined in a council planning blueprint.
Logistics giant Gazeley wants to build seven warehouses and a rail freight interchange between Park Farm, Stanground, and the Felixstowe to Nuneaton railway line. It would be called Magna Park

It is estimated that the development would create 5,400 jobs and attract more big name companies to Peterborough.

The proposals have sparked fears among residents over the impact of extra traffic, noise and light pollution, among other concerns.

They have been making their feelings known during a consultation run by Peterborough City Council on a document called the Core Strategy, which will help guide the long-term development of the Peterborough area.

Chairman of protest group Stand Up For Stanground – Residents Against Magna Park Chris Harper said he hoped to convince the council to drop Magna Park from the strategy.

Speaking yesterday, just hours before the deadline by which members of the public had to submit their views on the document, he vowed the campaign would go on even if it is included.

Mr Harper said: "We need to make sure our voices are heard all the way along the process, and it would be nice to see that Magna Park isn't in the strategy at all. But we will fight it as it develops.

"The ideal is that we make Gazeley think a bit more and they decide it isn't worth the hassle and look for other sites.

Have the employment benefits been grossly exaggerated? I find it difficult to believe that 4000 jobs would be created in the running of 7 warehouses. There would be no fork lift drivers left in the rest of East Anglia.
Also one of the main goals of Opportunity Peterborough is to attract a large number of skilled professionals to the area. This proposal is a total contradiction to OP.

It is possible for 4000+ jobs to be create by these buildings, there will probably be 2 types of forklift drivers as i think you need another license for the large ones that carry containers which they are on about using. I live opposite where they want to build the warehouses and to be honest i couldn't give a f*** what they do, either way if they do build them there's not much we can do. I do love the scenery but i would rather warehouse's then a clay pit or what ever i have been hearing about them digging up the fields if the warehouses don't go ahead!

Fight all you want for them not to build, but just bear in mind that we could have a clay pit maybe that would be operating 24/7!

ok so it might spoil the landscape but with the closure of hotpoint coming on and maybe some job losses at perkins maybe it will be a good thing so that decent working people can still earn a living without to much travelling

better a warehouse than a massive housing estate full of thugs who will probably set fire to the locals. Build the warehouse and the bypass and hurry up about it!
