The overall total raised stood at £20,309,747 at the end of Friday nights BBC telethon, just short of the amount raised at the same stage last year.

In 2008 the appeal raised over £38 million in total.

The appeal was first broadcast on TV in 1980, and the Pudsey mascot was first seen in 1985.
