Customers who use Tesco, in Serpentine Green, Hampton, voted Deafblind UK as one of three local charities to receive a share of £1,000.

Each month, the superstore gives away the money as part of a community initiative, and Deafblind UK received £468.17.

Community fund-raiser at Deafblind, in Cygnet Road, Hampton, Kate Coles said: “We are so pleased that the customers of Tesco Hampton voted for us in October. It’s a great idea for Tesco to support their local charities, and we are pleased to be the recipient of such a good amount.”

Tesco Community Champion Hayley Noble added: “I can’t imagine what it must be like to be deaf and blind. We take so much for granted. I am pleased that the Tesco scheme is making a real difference to local charities such as Deafblind UK.”

Deafblind UK supports deafblind people in their own homes, enabling them to live as independently as possible.

They provide homecare assistance, communicator guides, rehabilitation and interpreter support by establishing a network of Independent Living Teams (ILTs).
