ROADWORKS caused chaos in the city during the evening rush-hour yesterday.
Major projects on the Fletton Parkway, Nene Parkway and Oundle Road caused queues of traffic and long delays.

And motorists can expect similar problems today in the Friday evening rush-hour.

A 40mph speed limit has been imposed on the Fletton Parkway, while work to widen the dual-carriageway to three lanes gathers pace.

Meanwhile, on the Thorpe Bridge stretch of the Nene Parkway, a lane is closed in each direction, as well as 40mph limits being imposed.

And Oundle Road is currently a one-way street, due to a £3 million EDF Energy project to lay new underground cables.

Traffic can travel westbound along Oundle Road, but eastbound motorists are taken on a lengthy diversion via New Road and London Road.

Woah stop the presses! Talk about stating the obvious... didn’t anyone else realise that simultaneous roadworks on over half of Peterborough’s main trunk roads would cause congestion? This has been happening for weeks!

Best part is that traffic diverted along London Road then gets stuck by the roadworks between Silver St and New Road. Also, how long before someone is injured by motorists speeding down these narrow streets?

I dread to think what the congestion will be like leading up to Christmas. The Fletton Parkway is going to be even more horrendous what with shoppers going to Hampton....

Remember folks, other shopping centres are available!
