WHEN the thousands of eager runners set off on Sunday in the Great Eastern Run, two airmen from RAF Wittering will be among them.
The two safety equipment fitters will be taking up the baton to support a charity that is close to their boss’s heart.
Corporal Martin O’Neill and Corporal Kurt Allen work in the Harrier Survival Equipment Section at the airbase near Peterborough.
They will be completing the 13.1-mile half-marathon course to raise about £400 for Breast Cancer Care.
The pair were inspired to support the charity after hearing of the crucial help and backing that the breast-cancer charity had provided their Senior NCO Sergeant Darren Kerridge’s wife, who had breast cancer, but has since recovered.
Cpl O’Neill (32) said: “Everyone has had experience of someone they know having suffered from breast cancer.
“It is a cause that a lot of people can relate to and so we thought it would be a good charity to support.”
