PETERBOROUGH'S poets have been given the chance to win £1,000 by writing a rhyme about their home city.
The Local Poem competition is open to everyone in the UK, and is being run by United Press.

To enter, poets need to write their verse, which should be no more than 20 lines, or 160 words, about life in their home town before December 31.

A United Press spokesman said : “The competition is designed to encourage more people to get involved in writing poetry.

“We find that poems written from personal observation and experience are most heartfelt and expressive, so we are expecting some great entries from Peterborough.”
