THE city's transport chiefs have pledged to investigate ways to improve the road safety record of a notorious stretch of the Werrington Parkway.
Crash barriers could be erected to protect businesses and homes in Danish Court and Papyrus Road, while rumble strips could be introduced to reduce the speed of roundabout traffic.
However, Peterborough City Council has ruled out putting up speed cameras and there are no plans to review maximum speed limits on the Werrington Parkway until 2011.
The town hall announcement comes four months after John Gordon died when the car he was driving
crashed through the first-floor wall of a house in Danish Court, which backs on to the Werrington Parkway.
Mr Gordon was travelling southbound on the road when he clipped the edge of the Papyrus Road roundabout, flipping the vehicle into the air.
Following the tragedy, Werrington South councillors led calls to improve safety on the road, culminating in Cllr Paula Thacker presenting a 200-name petition to full council.
The petition called for the speed limit on the stretch of the Werrington Parkway between Glinton and the Papyrus Road roundabout to be reduced from 70mph to 50mph.
It also requested the installation of speed enforcement cameras, rumble strips and barriers around the Danish Court boundary.
While Cllr Thacker said she was delighted that council officers were investigating road safety measures, the Conservatives expressed disappointment that there would be no reduction in speed limits.
She said: "We wanted the speed limit reduced to 50mph, as it has been between the Papyrus Road roundabout and the Mancetter Square roundabout.
"However, I'm delighted that the council will look into installing barriers which will protect the safety of people in Danish Court."
Liberal Democrat member for Werrington South Cllr Darren Fower added: "It's good news that something is being done. The Werrington Parkway has been a dangerous road for a number of years. The road will see more traffic if housing developments to the north of the city go-ahead."
The council's head of transport and engineering David Farquhar said consideration was being given to introducing crash barriers to protect properties in Danish Court, while the installation of rumble strips on the approach to the Papyrus Road roundabout will be approved subject to the road meeting the necessary criteria.
Speed limits along the entire length of the A15, including the stretch between Glinton and the Papyrus Road roundabout, will be reviewed in 2011.
