THERE were plenty of offers to round up a church's flock at a service for man's four-legged friends.
St Andrew’s Church, in Whittlesey, held its animal service, and along with many of the usual members of the congregation there were cats, dogs and hamsters sitting in the aisles.

The church has been running the annual service for a number of years, and regularly gets large attendances, which also raise money for animal charity the RSPCA.

At the service, animal-themed hymns were sung, and readings from the Bible were chosen because of their links to wildlife.

All the animals were given a blessing by the vicar, and families were invited to light a candle for pets that had died during the year.

Church secretary Hazel Winterton said: “We had about 30 people turn up, which was quite good.

“We always hold the service on the Sunday nearest St Francis of Assisi’s day, and it is always well attended.

“The collection is always sent to the RSPCA, and everyone is always very generous – this year we raised £44, which we were very pleased with.”
