A PENSIONER who died following a four-car pile-up near Stamford has been named by police.
Alfred Edwards (77), of Clare Close, Stamford, was driving a Rover 114 on the A606 in Tinwell when the collision happened at about 6pm on Monday.
He was taken to Peterborough District Hospital with serious injuries, but died early on Tuesday.

r Edwards, a grandfather of two, lived in the town all his life, and worked as a lorry driver until his retirement.
Yesterday his daughter, Catherine Tarry, of Barley Grove, Deeping St James, near Market Deeping, paid tribute to a popular man, who was well known in Stamford.
She said: “You couldn’t walk through the town with him without having to stop every couple of minutes to talk to someone.”
The three other vehicles involved in the accident were all red Vauxhall Corsas. Two of the drivers needed hospital treatment for minor injuries, while the third was uninjured.
Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.
Investigating officer Detective Constable David Sharpe, said: “The Rover was travelling towards Oakham, and the three other vehicles in the opposite direction.
“We’re keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who saw any of the vehicles in the moments leading up to the collision.”
