ONE of Peterborough's most
anticipated annual events will have a brand new main sponsor this year.

Organisers of the Firework Fiesta have announced that Serpentine Green shopping centre will be its chief backer for 2007.

A champagne breakfast launch marked the official announcement, with Peterborough business people and dignitaries attending the early morning bash.

The Mayor of Peterborough, Cllr sMarion Todd, joined Serpentine Green centre manager Dennis Baldry for the launch at the Ferry Meadows Watersport Centre.

Chairman of Firework Fiesta Marcus Horrell says: “We are delighted to announce Serpentine Green as Firework Fiesta’s main sponsor.

“We welcome all of Serpentine Green Shoppers and of course all the people of Peterborough and surrounding areas to East Anglia’s premier firework spectacular.”

Last year, thousands of people wrapped up warm to brave the autumn cold and watch the spectacular display in Ferry Meadows Country Park.

Celebrations saw a £12,000 display, and an enormous bonfire and fun fair, all after Romanian pop-duo The Cheeky Girls had helped launch the event, and then entertain the crowd with a four-song performance.

The event is run jointly by Peterborough Rotary Club and Round Table as their big fund-raiser of the year, with proceeds going to their charity funds which are distributed to local causes.

Serpentine Green, in Hampton, Peterborough, was introduced to Firework Fiesta through Victoria Clarke, of Clarke and Tholomew, who was appointed as their sponsorship contact.

This year’s Fireworks Fiesta is scheduled to take place on November 3.

Further details will emerge in the coming weeks.
