A NEW nightspot with a cosmopolitan atmosphere is aiming to attract the growing number of young eastern European migrants in the city.
Tapping in to a new audience, The Pulse 8 bar – which is located in the former Faith nightclub premises in Geneva Street – is hoping to rejuvenate the city's night scene.

The club is the first owned by Aigars Balsevics, and after 200 revellers packed into the venue on the successful opening night last weekend, he said: "We are planning to be open from Wednesday to Sunday, and hope that it will give a bit more life to the city.

"There are very few clubs open in the city during the week, so we think there is a need.

"We are planning on having international nights, with music from across Europe – along with dance and R & B music, we will also have guest DJs from Poland and Lithuania as well, to try and attract as many people as possible."

The club saw more than 200 people at the opening night last weekend, and Mr Balsevics said he was hoping it would continue to be a success.

He said: "It was important that we opened before the Christmas rush, and we are sure we will be busy.

"We may be in a recession, but it is time that someone had some success.

"We are trying to be a bit different from everyone else, and attract a real mix of people."

Today chairman of Peterborough Chamber of Commerce John Bridge said the club had the recipe for success, if it was managed well.

He said: "If there is demand for the club then people will go.

"We want a vibrant evening and night time economy, and we need people to invest in Peterborough, but we also want the right businesses to be in the city and attracting the right people.

"I am sure the research has been done to make sure the club attracts the right people."

Faith nightclub closed in April this year, and there had been plans by the owners to build flats on the site in the future.

However, the city council's planning department delayed the decision at a meeting last month because of the lack of detail in the application.

Pegalina - it's because every other club has guest DJs from England, this club is trying to be different and cosmipolitan. Or perhaps wasn't that painfully obvious from the article???

Personally, I believe that the re-opening of this venue has been a great idea and hopefully will help revive the nightlife in Peterborough, which seems to have dipped in the last few years.

Mr Balsevics, a person who I met with recently, has take a very brave and bold move by taking on this venue. Granted the economic climate is not the best, but hopefully the local clubbers will help support this new veture and I think the fact that an individual is taking on the PLC's such as Lumiar (Liquid, New York New York etc) can only be a good thing?

There are DJ's from the UK playing in this club, but to welcome a more cosmo atmosphere, the international DJ's are a positive injection to the local nightlife. Why not try it yourself?

Good luck to all the staff at the club.

So have the plans to turn Faith into flats been scrapped? This sounds like a great revamp for the club - constant revamps are needed to stop the nightlife becoming stagnant and repetitive so Mr Balsevic's plans seem really positive.

Good luck to them. If its anything like the atmosphere of bars/clubs in Warsaw, Cracow, Gdansk and the other baltic towns then it will be a success! Will probably give it a go at some point, cant be any worse than the Luminar youth club of this city and the cheese fest next door!

I think the application was refused by the planners, or set aside due to lack of detail in their application.

Would be a shame to see another club closing its doors.

I think the owners are trying to make this a multi national club, so its not 100% international people invited, 100& foreign music etc. The fact there are two rooms should help prevent this and also the likes Tiesto, Fedde Le Grand, Bob Sinclar etc are international artists, so im sure it won't just be limited to polish bars etc.

Oh! Wonderful - just what we need - another outlet for drunken yobs of all cultures to create havoc and take up police time clearing up the mess they create - when, oh! when is this blessed council going to learn and stop these clubs opening. All the time we hear from them - we must stop the binge drink culture and here they go again - allowing another one to open. Great, another £10 on my council tax bill for the clear up operations
