ONE of the Peterborough's radio stations is set to undergo a multi-million pound re-branding over the next few months.
From Monday, 5 January, Hereward FM will become known at Heart, as it becomes one of the first stations to change to the Heart brand, under new owners Global Radio.

This is the first phase of the roll-out as part of the re-brand over the next 12 to 18 months.

The changes will see the ongoing development of local programming and a marketing investment into the station.

Managing director of the station Sharon Rush said: "Everyone at Hereward FM is looking forward to becoming the 'Heart' of greater Peterborough.

"The investment into the station means that we can continue to provide first-class local radio for listeners and advertisers. Heart is set to grow into an even stronger brand, and we're proud to be part of that."

The other eight local radio stations involved in phase one include SGR FM, SGR Colchester, Radio Broadland, Q103, Northants 96, Chiltern Bedfordshire, Chiltern Dunstable and Horizon.

It'll be a shame to see the name Hereward FM go as it's been around for nearly as long as me!
All of the syndicated shows are pretty dire these days with only the locally produced shows being worth a listen so I guess this is just progress

Sorry to break the news to you saint but it's the morning, afternoon and drivetime shows that are staying! It's all the other rubbish like the fake chart show and overnight shows that are syndicated.

It's not been a local station for years anyway with a bulk of the programming being a link up, along with many other "local stations", all transmitting the same rubbish from a central location. I know this means the big name presenters are on the air, but it was a much better station when the local presenters, many of who had been local mobile DJ's, with local knowledge and opinions were live from Bridge Street.

It will be nice to stop all the same programmes being transmitted form a central location. Once when I was driving the staion began to play Craig David. I immediately changed channels only to find they were playing.... Craig David. I switched channels again and yes, they were playing Craig David. I ended up switching off for five minutes until it had finished.

Sorry Bodie, but this rebrand isn't going to help with the fact of the same song on many stations. If anything, it will just highlight what's already happening - with stations such as Cambridge's Q103 and Norwich's Broadland also renaming to Heart, it will bring to peoples attention that all these stations are actually 'networked' clones and have been for some years, with a large proportion of programming coming in from London.

If you want "local" it's LITE FM all the way. I think they could rebrand Hereward FM as Hereward Heart so as to keep some locality focus. I also remember the first day of broadcasting. God we're getting old!
