A MOTORIST has lost her licence after police caught her driving at 118mph on a road near Peterborough.
Amanda Adie (40) was handed a 50-day ban and fined £315 by city magistrates after she admitted speeding along the A47 near Thorney in May.

The court heard the hospital physiotherapist had been in a rush to collect her daughter from Peterborough railway station when she was clocked breaking the road's 70mph speed limit in her Audi TT.

Oliver Barrett, mitigating, said Adie, of Earsham Drive, King's Lynn, had only recently bought the car and was not used to its power. She has since sold it.

Not used to it's power? The car has a speedometer just like every other out there.

That one worked for a retired traffic cop think it was from the March area I remember reading it, thought it was strange then still think it's strange now as an excuse.

This one and the previous boy racer and farmer stories are probably some of the worst , but every time I go out in my car there is some idiot overtaking blindly . Driving is as much a state of mind as technical ability.

50 day ban - make it an automatic 12 months and when they sufer they will learn to slow down.

If this reckless, stupid, irresponsible woman is a hospital physio, has she never had to deal with the victims of road crashes who may need months of physio just to be able to walk again! I had my car parked on the road with no tax, (yes it's illegal but it wasn't being driven during that time), and my fine was almost twice what she's received. I find it unbelieveable that someone can drive at that speed and get just a 50 day ban. She should have a minimum of 12 months ban, a higher fine, and be made to re-take her test. As for the "not used to the power" line as a form of mitigation, as others have said, it has a speedo, but there again, she was probably looking in the mirror to check her make-up instead of the dash board.

what were you thinking ?, your daughter could have waited 10mins longer. at 118mph she could have waited for ever - in vain.

Tis better to be 10 minutes late in this world than 10 minutes early in the next ! What sort of an excuse is it that she wasn't used to the car ? All the more reason for her to be driving it more carefully anyway. Roughly translated " not being used to the car" means "she had just got a high powered car and couldn't resist giving it some welly". Try the autobahns in Germany woman - not the roads around Thorney ! You should have been banned for at least a year !

She should have told the judge she had animals to look after the judge would have let her keep her license after all it worked for the farmer featured yesterday.

Just as well that this lady pr*t avoided being sentenced by Judge Ken Sheraton! He has a history of being tough on such offences - in my dreams.
There is no excuse for this speed and penalty should be a fixed disqualification say 3 months foe each mile over the speed limit. That might make drivers sit up!
