YOU are doing the city of Peterborough proud and keep up the good work.
Those are the words of Mayor of Peterborough, Cllr Pat Nash, and the glamour model’s fiancé, Tom Williams, as Nicola McLean battled her way through the trials and tribulations of the I’m A Celebrity jungle.

The model, who has a two-year-son with Peterborough United star Tom, has so far successfully negotiated two trials and two celebrity chests and come face to face with her worsts fears, which include heights and all creepy crawlies.

However, her greatest challenge has been coping with the irrepressible Timmy Mallett and controversial David Van Day.

Today, Cllr Nash has spoken of her immense pride in Nicola and what she has managed to achieve so far in the jungle.

She said: “I wish her all the best and it’s great that we have two people – including Aston Merrygold on X Factor – with the chance of being winners.

“I have tremendous admiration for what she is going through and what all of them do on the show. It’s all fun really and power to her that she’s doing it and that everyone is watching her.

“I will be disappointed if she went out because what the young people on the street were telling me this morning is that she’s going to win.

“She’s gone off there to do something for herself and it shows a lot of courage, which is great for the city. It’s got an audience, a cult following, and in these times of the credit crunch we need some total escapism.”

However, the first lady of the city isn’t the only one urging Nicola on as fiancé Tom has been heading the “vote for Nicola” campaign at The Posh.

“She’s doing really well,” he said, adding: “I’m obviously missing her, but I want her to do well. All of the lads and the club have been supporting for her and voting for her, even the manager, Darren Ferguson.

“Barry Fry loves her as well and his wife called me the other day to say they’re all watching it and are proud of her.”

And what about Rocky, isn’t he missing his mum?

He added: “Rocky’s been fine. He’s been kept busy by going to the zoo and all the activity groups. He knows she’s in the jungle, but we have told him she’s looking for a train that he wants for Christmas.”
