TALENTED pupils will be using maths to help sum up the benefits of walking to school.
The initiative comes as part of International Walk to School Month, which is dedicated to getting children to put their best foot forward.

During the month, pupils from two schools in Fenland will benefit from enjoyable, interactive maths workshops to help promote the benefits of walking to school.

The schools participating in the Cambridgeshire County Council Safer Routes to School (SRTS) Project include Clarkson Infant School, in Wisbech, and Maple Grove Infants School, in March.

Road safety officer for the council Matt Staton said: “Increasing children’s levels of physical activity is a county council and national priority. Simply walking to school can contribute significantly to the recommended one hour of children’s physical activity per day.”

Some 16,000 pupils across Cambridgeshire, along with Spike the Road Safety Hedgehog, kicked off the month of events with Walk to School Week, which began on Monday, October 6.
