A BENEFITS cheat has been sentenced to community service after claiming more than £4,500 of taxpayers' cash while earning an income.
Lamine Konate (32), of Eastfield Road in Eastfield, Peterborough, continued to claim housing benefit, council tax benefit and income support without telling the authorities he had a job.
He pleaded guilty to the allegations at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court and was ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid community work.
He was also told to repay the money he had falsely claimed, along with £300 costs.
Peterborough City Council’s fraud and investigations manager, Diane Baker, said: “To anyone who has ever considered committing benefit fraud; this latest case should serve as a warning.
“We will continue to investigate, and bring to justice, those people in Peterborough who commit benefit fraud and would urge any member of the public who believes that someone is committing an offence to contact us.”
