Breaking news 1.10pm: Peterborough's Louis Smith has made history by becoming the first British man to win an individual gymnastics medal and is coming home from Beijing with a bronze medal.
The 19-year-old gymnast produced a near faultless performance on the pommel horse, performing sixth and his score of 15.725 put him in the silver medal position with two gymnasts still to go.

However, the final performer Filip Ude of Croatia equalled his score and took the silver medal position on a technicality, as he had fewer deductions.

Reigning world champion Xiao Qin, from China, took the gold.

Full report and reaction from Peterborough.

Louis you are a superstar. What a great performance, well done.

I hope you get a parade through the city as you deserve it.

The only downside was it was not shown live to the nation only on the red button, I hope the BBC sort themselves out in future as this guy is a superstar and deserved full coverage over athletic heats.
