MYSTERIOUS lights spotted in the sky were not the signs of little green men out for a cruise, but the handiwork of a David Bowie fan.
Puzzled Evening Telegraph readers saw the lights on Thursday from Elton and from the A1, near Wansford, on Saturday.

It now seems the UFOs were simply Chinese sky lanterns released at the wedding reception of Peterborough couple Franco and Sandra Caprio, at The Haycock Hotel, Wansford.

In an e-mail from Germany, where they are honeymooning, Mr Caprio said the nearest they came to life on Mars was a performance at the reception by Aladdinsane, a David Bowie tribute band in which he plays bass.

He said: "They were, in fact, Chinese sky lanterns and my wife and I were married that day and thought it would be a romantic touch to let a few off that evening at The Haycock, Wansford, where our reception was being held.

"We are also aware from the very helpful staff at The Haycock that Saturday night's wedding also set off lanterns.

"We did not mean to cause such a stir and hope we also didn't disappoint anybody hoping for UFOs to land."

Chinese sky lanterns contain a small candle or fuel cell which burns to lift them skyward on the heated air.

They can travel upwards for 1,000 metres before the flame goes out and they drift back to earth.

And Pauline Clay also got in touch .

"My sister Tracy Hall (now Mrs Squire) married Benjamin Squire on Saturday, May 17th. The reception was held at The Haycock at Wansford. My brother-in-law purchased these Chinese Lanterns for the guests to light and release in the night sky. They are supposed to bring good luck.

"So I am sorry to inform your readers there was no UFOs, but approximately 20 to 25 Chinese Lanterns. "

Brilliant, kicking out time and these people thought it was UFO's - only in the UK.

I hope they'll get a £75 fine for littering.

James, you do realise that the litter police only operate from 6am to 9pm and this would no doubt be classed as racist if they fined them in our politically correct world.

Well, if those lights actually were UFOs, either extra terrestrial or secret military technology, then this is just the sort of cover-up story the government would release.

The government are proven liars. They are criminal beyond belief. They are not particularly credible, to say the least.

I can hand on heart say that this is no Roswell, I was at Sandra and Franco's reception, and we all released the sky lanterns, it was a lovely touch to the end of a wonderful day.

Surely any object that is flying and you can't identify is by definition a Unidentified Flying Object or UFO?

So anyone who saw these Chinese latterns and didn't know what they were did see a UFO!

It only ceases to be a UFO when it is identified and becomes a IFO.

It does not explain the high-altitude, horizontally moving bright, steady light I saw over Werrington at around the same time, which all of a sudden disappeared.

Blizzard, you need to wake the hell up. You are living in a false paradigm. Get informed; if you think reality is how the BBC portrays it, then you are seriously mistaken.

Secret military cover up - what have you been smoking? I don't buy much news as most is propaganda but even I struggle to agree that this is some form of government cover up.
