PARENTS of children forced to spend the night in hospital can now stay with them overnight thanks to a charity football match that raised thousands of pounds.
The money was raised earlier this year, with a match which saw Posh boss Darren Ferguson putting on his boots to star in the annual charity clash between Posh Legends and Marshall Peugeot at London Road.

This week, Posh Legends presented Peterborough District Hospital’s Amazon ward with a cheque for £3,000.

Matron of paediatrics Sue Hartley said: “We are overwhelmed by the generosity and continued support of the Posh Legends, and their sponsors, Woodcock Holmes Estate Agents, Marshall Peterborough and Ethlin Property Development.”

Ferguson, his assistant Kevin Russell and goalkeeping coach Andy Dibble all played for Marshall in the first half, but it was Tommy Robson’s band of legends that emerged victorious.

About 500 people enjoyed the match.

The Amazon ward at Peterborough District Hospital recently launched an appeal for donations for new fold-up parents’ beds for the children’s ward.

Fold-up beds are essential for parents to stay in hospital overnight with their children.

nIf companies or individuals would like to make a donation, they should call Sue directly on 01733 874188.
