FINAL preparations were underway today for an annual flower festival which attracts hundreds of thousands of people from all over the country.
The 45th Spalding Flower Parade takes place this weekend, with a country fair and themed float display, depicting scenes from famous musicals.
The vehicles, decorated with tulip flowers, will tour the town between 2pm and 5pm on Saturday afternoon.
Churches around Spalding will also be decked out with floral displays, and there will be a craft fair and stalls at Springfield Festival Gardens, off Camel Gate.
In the town centre, Tuby's Fantastic Funfair has already opened in the Victoria Street car park, and will be around for the whole weekend, with rides from 6pm until 10pm tonight, and all day between 10am and 10.30pm from Saturday to Monday.
David Norton, chairman of the Flower Parade committee, hopes this year's event will be as successful as ever.
He said: "We know it's extremely popular. Last year we had about 150,000 people visit Spalding over the weekend, and we have had as many as 250,000 in the past."
Other major events taking place over the bank holiday include the Truckfest at the East of England Showground in Alwalton, on Sunday and Monday.
This year's show includes a guest appearance by footballing hardman turned movie star Vinnie Jones, who will be joined by BBC Radio 2 favourites Sally "Traffic" Bowsman and Johnnie Walker on Sunday.
And Brian Capron, who plays murderous Richard Hillman in Coronation Street, will be on stage on Monday.
Visitors will also have the chance to see the latest lorries, including hi-tech "Big Foot" monster trucks from the US.
If, however, you are looking for more traditional entertainment, head out to Stilton on Monday, for a medieval-style cheese rolling competition.
Teams of four wearing fancy dress will take part in the race, which begins at noon, to see who can roll their cheese fastest through the village.
The competition dates back to 1790, and attracts huge crowds. There will also be stalls, sideshows and May Queens. In the evening, bands including city rock group Leon, will be playing at the Talbot Inn, in North Street.
