AS severe storms hit the region last night a house in Stamford was struck by lightning setting it on fire.
The mid-terrace house in West Street, Stamford, was empty when it was struck at about 9.30pm.

Fire severely damaged a bedroom and another room was heat and smoke damaged.

Crews from Stamford and Market Deeping fought the blaze using four breathing apparatus and two hose reels

Adrian Troughton (45), from Middleton near Rockingham, was in a pub near-by and heard the lightning sound an almighty crack when it hit the house .

He rushed out and took pictures of the fire on his mobile phone.

He said: "I was in the pub at the time. I heard this almighty crack and bang, so everyone went outside and saw the house was on fire.

"There was no one inside but I think there was someone in the house next door playing on an X-box who I heard got blown across the room."
