UPDATE 8AM: The green recycling bin service is operating as normal today, according to Peterborough City Council on day one of the strike.
Most, if not all green bins will be emptied, so all green bins should be left out for collection.

However, black refuse bins and brown organic bins will not be emptied today and these should be removed from the street and put out tomorrow unless instructed otherwise.

Have you been affected? Has your child not be able to go to school? Has you local bus been cancelled? Is your bin sitting unemptied? Comment below

Peterborough City Council's latest news on affected services:

Hampton College will be closed to students on both days.

The Register Office will continue to meet statutory deadlines for registering births and deaths. However, there will only be limited appointments available on these two days and people are asked to avoid calling the office on either 16 July or 17 July to make appointments

Private housing services, community safety, supporting people and the drug and alcohol action teams will operate as usual but customers may experience some minor delays when contacting them by telephone

The housing options service desk within the customer service centre will be closed. If you have an emergency homeless situation then come into the customer service centre reception and ask to telephone a housing options officer, for any other enquiries please wait until Friday or next week.

Street cleansing and grounds maintenance will be operating a limited service on both days

It is likely there will be a significant disruption to Travelchoice branded public transport services, further information will be provided on both days.

Just the usual 'bully boy' tactics. The same ones the council tax dept use when you've inadvertently underpaid your council tax standing order by £8 a month - they issue a court summons for the £32 AND charge you nearly £80 for the pleasure! Thus again making criminals out of the law abiding citizens who DO pay their taxes.

luckly my childs school not been affected but friends has and her children have had to take packed lunch in today. this is really unfare for those parents who recieve free school meals. some maynot beable to afford packed lunch especially if they have several children.

typical council workers,i will not be lucky enough to get a pay rise this year due to working in the building industry, let alone 2.5%,at least they will get some pay rise to cope with rising costs at the shops, mortgage, utillities.

Claire40 - I received summons last week as a cheque had gone astray in their system - I has to repay the instalment by debit card over the phone - they then cashed the missing cheque the next day - I call this obtaining money by deception.

If you want more wages then work more efficiently and effectively, i.e fewer staff sitting around doing nothing. Try working in the real world of private industry!
