POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a burglary during which a safe was stolen from a betting shop.
Shortly before 2.45am yesterday, three men wearing balaclavas battered their way through the front door of Coral Bookmakers, in West Street, Bourne.

They sped off with the large metal safe in a getaway car towards Spalding.

Lincolnshire police
was called by a passer-by who spotted a group of five or six men loading the safe into a car outside the shop.

The witness said most were wearing black balaclavas.

One is described as being in his early 20s, of medium build, with dark hair.

It is believed the thieves made their getaway in a silver coloured five-door hatchback, thought to be a Honda, and with the registration number FL05 LXS or similar.

A spokeswoman for Coral Bookmakers said the firm’s security teams had been at the shop yesterday, and while it was still unknown how much money was in the safe, it was unlikely to be a large amount as only small quantities of cash were kept on the premises overnight.

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area of West Street at the time of the incident to contact them.

n Anyone with information should call Lincolnshire police on 01522 532222 quoting incident number 32 of May 29, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, 0800 555111.
