BENDING it like Beckham and launching rockets like Ronaldo, future footballing stars at St Thomas More Roman Catholic Primary School certainly scored highly at a recent charity event.
More than 370 pupils and staff took part in a sports challenge sponsorship day to raise funds for the school and a charity which promotes sport in schools across the country.

Junior MacDonald brought his encouragement and energy to the school, in Park Lane, and set up a goal in the hall in which children were asked to kick the ball as hard as they could towards it.

A machine then recorded how fast the ball travelled with the highest speed achieved by a pupil an impressive 53mph, with only the school’s PE teacher hitting harder with 60mph.

Teacher Christine Smith said: “It was wonderful, the children were really enthusiastic and even the teachers could not resist having a go.

“There were medals for the highest score for each class which was great as it gave the day a competitive element.”
