PREPARATIONS for the city's annual firework extravaganza are under way once again.
This year’s Fireworks Fiesta will be held at Ferry Meadows on November 3, and is being supported by Lite FM 106.8, which will be running a live broadcast from the main stage.
More than 10,000 visitors are expected to attend the event, which is bei
ng jointly organised by the Rotary Club of Peterborough and Peterborough Round Table to raise money for Peterborough charities.
Rotary president Phil Thompson said: “It is designed for families with safety the utmost priority. Peterborough’s Ferry Meadows is just a wonderful natural venue with the fireworks being set off safely from the lakeside.”
Firework Fiesta was founded by former Rotarian Robert Horrell in 1975, to help reduce the number of children injured every year from fireworks at people’s own events.
Mr Horrell’s son, Marcus, is now chairman of the organising committee and will be made president of the committee next year.
Since 1975 the event has made a major contribution to fireworks safety in the city and has raised tens of thousands of pounds for charities such as Macmillan and the Deafblind Association.
