A WOMAN who died in a fireball earlier this week has still not been named.
The 42-year-old woman died after a horrific incident, where it is thought she poured petrol over herself before setting fire to it.
Police have now handed the case, which happened in Church Walk, Farcet near Peterborough on Wednesday, over to the coroner after saying that there were no suspicious circumstances behind the death.
The inquest into the death is expected to be opened on Monday.
Residents in the normally quiet road raced outside with towels to try and extinguish the flames and save the woman as she staggered in agony across the nearby village green.
Many of the people who rushed outside spoke later of their desperation because no matter what they did, they could not put out the flames.
One woman said: "Her skin had started to burn. She wasn't able to speak, and whenever we thought the flames had gone out, they would come back again.
"It was such a terrible thing to see."
Paramedics rushed to the scene but, despite medical attention, the woman died later in Peterborough District Hospital.
It is thought she was not from Peterborough, but had close connections to the city.
