He joined an online dating agency days after murdering Andrew Scanlan, writing that he was looking forward to "freedom" in the future. The former doorman was expelled from school after aggressive behaviour.
James Baigent: The hard-working father of three had never been in trouble with the police.
However, his wife in police interviews described him as being like a "blank canvas" who would show little emotion.
One friend described him as being liked a "coiled spring" who was always tense.
He also asked advice on where to get rid of a body in the months before the killing.
Jeff Woods: The tree surgeon's axe was used to chop off Andrew Scanlan's head and hands after the killing.
Woods met James Baigent when he ran door security at a pub. The fantasist claimed he was a black belt in a little known martial art and would train people in his garage presenting them with worthless certificates.
He also told people he had been in the parachute regiment and served in Iraq and Syria.
It emerged he was having an affair with James Baigent's wife, Charlotte.
