A WOMAN raced along the fast lane of a major road through the city – despite having a police car with sirens and lights blazing following her for three miles.
A police patrol car had been called to a disturbance in the city centre, and had turned on all its lights and sirens to clear a smoother route through the 4.15pm traffic.

Peterborough Magistrates' Court heard that the patrol car had made good prog
ress along the Frank Perkins Parkway until it came up behind a Vauxhall Astra, being driven by Lisa Hopkins.

Hopkins (26), of Paynells, Orton Goldhay, was travelling at 80mph, but despite the warning signals given by the police driver she continued in the right hand lane.

The driver even tried the three different sirens to attract her attention, but Hopkins still did not make way. Eventually, after three miles Hopkins pulled over to allow the car to pass.

She was pulled over outside Ikea, and other officers were called to deal with the situation.

Yesterday, Hopkins pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention.

She said: "I didn't know the route and was following my mum and step-dad. It was busy traffic and there was no room in another lane."

Hopkins was given four points on her licence, and ordered to pay a £200 fine, £35 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

I think she needs to learn the highway code and take more driving lessons. Surprising she doesn't know the route and lives in the Ortons?

£15 Victim surcharge!
I'm gonna become a traffic cop if they receive that for every dozy driver conviction. Thats a hell of a lot of free money driving about on Boro's roads!

PeterBorer the victim surcharge is paid into a fund aimed at helping improve services for victims of crime, and is a flat rate regardless of the size of the fine.
So it does not go directly into the police coffers.

She should have her license taken off her she isn't safe to be on the road. How can you not see or hear a police car in full flight on your tail?
