A FATHER who was racing to take his children to see their ill mother in hospital while over the drink-drive limit has appeared in court.
Jason Davis (42), of Saxon Way, Bourne, pleaded guilty to one count of speeding and one of drink-driving at Peterborough Magistrates' Court yesterday.

He admitted breaching a suspended sentence, after being caught with a machete – which he had use
d to chop a Christmas tree down – in December last year.

Davis was caught by police officers travelling at 91mph on the A1M near Junction 17 on August 21, while taking his 16-year-old and 10-year-old sons to see their mother in Papworth Hospital.

She had spent the week fighting for her life in a Manchester hospital after complications with a medical condition, and had just been transferred to a regular ward.

It was the oldest son's 16th birthday, and the family were keen that he opened his presents and cards with his mum.

He had also just received his GCSE results, and wanted to celebrate his two A*s, three As and five Bs as a family.

Davis, who said he had needed a drink to relax, had drunk two bottles of wine the night before, and thought the alcohol would have gone from his system.

However, he had 59 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 milliltres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes of alcohol to 100 millilitres of breath.

The case was committed to Lincoln Crown Court for sentencing, and Davis was disqualified from driving until that hearing. A date for sentencing has yet to be finalised.

So what did I say in my comment #2 that some bright spark decided it was unsuitable?
Forget all the sob stories that offenders offer up in mitigation for the law breaking. Davis Age 42 should be old enough and wise enough to know that speed kills, drink driving kills and his actions were even worsened by having his young sons in the car.
What would he have told tell his hospitalised wife, had there been a fatal crash killing his sons?
Perfectly valid questions and statements so before you report it as unsuitable, read the report carefully and
thank your lucky stars that this wreckless driving did not end in disaster.

I agree with you Chiefy. Nothing wrong with your comments, too many idiots speed or drink drive and cost lives.

don't agree chiefy. yes guilty to drink drive, yes yes to all the criticism. wife seriously ill, two bottles the night before to unwind(and nothing after). mistake made, but is he really as bad as the P head who drives home from the pub after getting a skinfull ?. ban him for life no. think about that tonight as you sit with a beer at home yourself. and before dan bleets on again, i was once smashed right off the road by a drunk driver who fled the scene leaving me trapped.

Answer to your question is YES YES YES YES YES!
I have no sympathy at all for people like Davis - there is a huge amount of information about as to the effects of the night before drinking. Hope that the Judge at Lincoln Crown Court dishes out appropriate punishment.

Drink driving, driving at 91mph, two children in the car, AND ON HIS WAY TO SEE HIS WIFE IN HOSPITAL !!!!

That sums it up. What a complete and utter moron. Obviously he did not consider the fact that he, his two children, and probably more perfectly innocent people, could also have ended up in hospital, or on a mortuary slab.
