THE perils of alcohol and road safety were highlighted when road safety officers, working in partnership with a theatre company, showcased a new exciting stage production.
More than 100 Year 8 pupils from The Voyager School were asked to participate as a trial audience for the production, entitled One Green Bottle.
The hard-hitting production, by Tiny Giants Theatre Company, illustrates how 12-year-old boys deal with everyday life, and how a simple error can cause devastation, along with issues such as distraction, safety awareness and drunken pedestrians.
Peterborough City Council’s road safety officer, Clair George, said: “From the age of 11, young people start travelling more independently and greater distances to senior schools, and face different issues, such as cycling safely on busy roads, walking in large groups and being influenced by peer pressure.
“Theatre in education is a highly effective way to inform young people about important road-safety issues.”
Voyager deputy headteacher and travel plan officer Rhod Campbell said: ”The pupils really enjoyed the production, and were happy to help the council trial its latest road safety initiative.”
