DOG owners are being urged to clean up after their pooches as part of a bid to tackle fouling in public places.
Fenland District Council’s dog warden service has teamed up with Cambridgeshire police to encourage dog owners to clean up after their animals.

The issue is a high priority with local residents and, in recent years, the council has promoted respo
nsible dog ownership.

Dog fouling hot spots have been identified and targeted with the introduction of some additional bins.

To get the message across, dog warden Terry Ball and police community support officers from Wisbech police station are patrolling Wisbech Park in a bid to ensure people understand that it is unacceptable not to clear up dog mess.

The council’s portfolio holder for sustainable environment, councillor Peter Murphy, said: “A few irresponsible dog owners are still failing to get the message that they must pick up after their pets.

“This joint approach should help to concentrate the minds of owners – particularly if there’s a £50 penalty attached to their thoughtless behaviour.”

The joint approach is also part of the on-going Be Seen to be Clean campaign which is currently running across the district.

n Anyone with information about dog fouling in their area should call 01354 654321 to report a problem.
