A MAN is fighting for his life in hospital after his van crashed into a ditch near March.
Ashley Flowerday (20), from Benwick, is in a critical condition at Addenbrooke's Hospital, in Cambridge, after suffering serious head and possible pelvic injuries in the incident near March on Sunday.
The crash took place at around 7.30am on the B
1093 Benwick Road, between Doddington and Benwick.
Mr Flowerday's white LDV 400 convoy van left the road and went into a ditch.
It is believed that Mr Flowerday, who was driving the vehicle, was hurt when he hit his head on the windscreen.
Eighteen-year-old passenger Jade Clark was taken to Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon with minor injuries.
A third passenger, Emma Overall (18) , from Chatteris, was treated at the scene for bruising.
Police believe Mr Flowerday was returning home from March, where he works as a doorman, at the time of the crash.
It is not yet known how the van came to leave the road, but police did reveal that it crashed after going through a series of S-bends near to a place called Miller's Cottage.
Despite the serious injuries suffered by Mr Flowerday, his van did not sustain a great deal of damage upon hitting the ditch.
Police have issued an appeal for any witnesses to the crash, or the movements of the van itself prior to the incident, to come forward.
Mr Flowerday may have stopped in Doddington before the crash so officers are keen to trace anyone who saw the van in the area between 7am and 7.30am.
Sgt Lyndon Pickston, who is investigating the crash as part of the Cambridgeshire Roads Policing Unit, said: "I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicle in the moments leading up to the incident.
"Any information, no matter how small, could prove vital in determining what happened."
Anyone with information should contact Sgt Pickston on 0345 4564564.
